We caught up with our Rising Star 2021 award winner, Team Leader Georgina Flavell, to find out all about her experience working at Northern Healthcare.
I was attracted to applying for NHC because I was interested in the OTA role.
I delegate tasks to staff for the day, support with medication, order and chase any medication necessary, complete flat checks, update care teams with any incidents, support residents with any paperwork queries, complete any admin work, support with afternoon and evening medication, support with flat cleans, and complete handovers. I also assist management with conducting interviews.
The challenges I face at work include chasing medication (when medication has been collected and is incorrect) and having residents show challenging behaviour towards me and my colleagues.
I love supporting residents and knowing that I have helped them to the best of my ability.
A standout memory of Northern Healthcare is my first day I stepped up as Team Leader from OTA. I was incredibly overwhelmed and felt that I would not be able to manage the workload, however, I have since grown into my role and very much enjoy my job.
Busy, stressful, wholesome.
I didn’t realise I had been nominated for the award. I was completely shocked when I was awarded Rising Star, but was also very happy and proud of myself.
I would encourage others to join Northern Healthcare. I would say that working in this career you need to be a people person and have compassion and understanding for others and their mental health.
