Our supported living services are full of activities with a busy calendar of group cooking classes, exercise, health and nutrition workshops, 1-2-1 time and occupational therapy to suit everyone’s needs and help the people we support reach their recovery goals.

Highlights from life at Amy Johnson House:

World Food Day

The people we supported at Amy Johnson House in Hull celebrated World Food Day last week with Polish food.They served Pierogi, snacks and drinks from Poland.

Been There, Bun That

Residents at Amy Johnson House, our supported living service in Hull, took a trip out to BrewDog for a bite to eat this week.

Caring for Animals

Residents arranged a collection of items for the animals in the RSPCA for Christmas. They also attended a visit and got to meet some of the animals!

Fire Safety

A resident assisted staff with fire warden checks this week. They also ensured that all of the fire extinguishers were in order.

Residents made decorated and made some gingerbread decorations with our staff.

Remembrance Sunday

Residents designed posters and a display for Remembrance Day this year.

Halloween Pumpkins

Staff and residents picked their own pumpkins this year – we can’t wait to see their carving skills.

Our residents had a great day doing arts and crafts and colouring!

Spicy but Ricey

Residents enjoyed making Jollof Rice with Support Workers, Cali and Fumi. They described the dish as delicious and spicy!

Baking Fun

One of our residents had a great day baking Bueno brownies with our activities champion, Macey.

An Evening Out

Our residents enjoyed a swimming session at the local leisure centre, then went for an evening stroll to the Humber Bridge, enjoying some quiet time out.

Pride Party

Amy Johnson House held a pride party! They set up a bar serving mocktails, had a quiz, a Hula Hoop making class, cake making and a buffet. What a great way to end such an important month!

Sewerby Hall

A couple residents visited Sewerby Hall, the stately home holding a collection of Amy Johnson memorabilia, the first woman to fly solo from London to Australia!

Battle of the Bands

Amy Johnson House debuted their new music group, and even their Service Manager Dan got involved!

Coronation Weekend

Our residents made the most of the coronation weekend by throwing their own celebration with a delicious spread of finger sandwiches, quiche, sausage rolls and cakes. An afternoon tea fit for a king, we say!

Residents and team members from Amy Johnson House braved the weather to visit Welton Water Adventure Centre for a new activity – paddle boarding!

Cooking Up a Storm

The team and residents from Amy Johnson House are always serving us a dose of food envy! Our residents have been at it again, cooking homemade pizzas, mac and cheese, lasagna, pancakes and a lovely breakfast in Food Group. Residents also made some delicious chocolate brownies in Baking Group for everyone to enjoy!

Wonderful Weekends

Amy Johnson House residents enjoyed a trip to The Deep to marvel at amazing marine life in Hull’s award-winning aquarium! Last week residents also put on their dancing shoes for an evening of ‘Just Dance’, followed by putting their feet up for movie night and hot chocolate.

Hull Street Life Museum

Our residents from Amy Johnson House enjoyed a day out at Hull Street Life Museum, followed by a picnic. The museum is home to 200 years of transport history! Residents had the opportunity to walk down a 1940s high street, board a tram and enjoy a carriage ride!

Brilliant Birthday Celebrations

One of our residents at Amy Johnson House celebrated her birthday last week, and chose to go ice skating. Residents very kindly made her bacon butties to start the day, and the team got her a birthday cake. The birthday celebrations were finished off with a mocktail masterclass! 🍹

Afternoon at the Rink

Our residents at Amy Johnson House enjoyed an afternoon at the ice hockey. One of our residents even got the opportunity to try on an ice hockey kit, and was surprised to find out how heavy it is!

World Cup Weekend

Residents at Amy Johnson House enjoyed making waffles with support from the team, to enjoy a communal breakfast before a day of World Cup activities! Together team and residents created some colourful wall displays for the World Cup, before sitting down to watch the games.

A Busy Month

Residents at Amy Johnson House have been super busy this month! November began with creating poppies for Remembrance Day, followed by a game of bingo, as this was the most requested activity in the latest residents meeting! In addition, one resident took a trip to the local lanes for a game of bowling.

Later in the month, residents enjoyed their monthly salon day, going out for a group meal, posting their World Kindness Day package, and baking and decorating some buns in baking group.

Autumn Activities

It’s been a busy start to Autumn at Amy Johnson House: they transformed their communal areas in preparation for Halloween; residents also enjoyed a visit to Humber Bridge followed by lunch, and a visit to Hull fair followed by a trip to the ice hockey arena to cheer on the local team; one of our residents was supported to see “Counting Crows”, an American rock band in Sheffield – and another resident celebrated his birthday!

Also this month, the team at Amy Johnson House are lucky to have three qualified hairdressers amongst the team and decided to open their own salon for a quieter, more relaxed experience. The hustle and bustle of a visit to the salon can sometimes be quite off-putting to some of our residents. Our residents were thrilled with the results from hairdresser Amy!

Pool Hall

One resident enjoyed a trip to the local pool hall for a couple of games.

Team Building

The team at Amy Johnson House recently had a team building day at a local obstacle water park!

Business Administrator Caron said, “It was nice to do something different, and something positive for our own mental health. It was very cold, but such a fun day!”

Ready, Steady, Cook!

Three of our team members from Amy Johnson House took part in a Ready Steady Cook challenge last week – all teams received the same ingredients chosen by Service Manager Daniel and Business Administrator Caron, and were also permitted to use any items from the store cupboard.

Pretty Puffins

Residents from Amy Johnson House have been out and about on the hunt for the puffin statues that are displayed around East Yorkshire. Did you know, East Yorkshire is famous for it’s puffins that nest in the cliffs at Bempton!

The Puffin trail is a unique project created to highlight the endangered wildlife of the coasts and seas, the global warming crisis and the growth of green energy, as well as the stories of the people of the East Yorkshire Coast.

The team at Amy Johnson house recently got together for a staff breakfast to say thank you and show each other how much they appreciate each other and the work they do 🥐

Historical Dig

One of our Amy Johnson House residents visited a local archaeological dig site with a member of our team – a really interesting afternoon out! The history behind this site is fascinating: it is an old burial ground that has revealed insight into Hull’s population in the later part of the 18th century.

Hopping Mad

One of our residents attended a local event recently, and made his rabbit outfit himself!

Family Recipes

Residents at Amy Johnson House have been getting up to a variety of activities this week. One resident enjoyed a lovely walk at the local nature park, while another resident cooked up Mac & Cheese for the team and residents following his Nan’s recipe!

Residents at Amy Johnson House have been busy rustling up a delicious cooked breakfast before enjoying a day creating some amazing artwork!

Street Food & Beach Trips

Some of our residents from Amy Johnson House attended Yum Festival, a street food #Festival held around Hull marina, and enjoyed tasting lots of delicious foods!

One resident also enjoyed a beach trip with CatZero and support from Team Leader Cameron.

Get Your Skates On!

Our residents at Amy Johnson House have been busy with lots of activities over the past week including ice skating, piano lessons and walks in the nature park area known as “Little Switzerland”!

Photography and DIY

One of our residents at Amy Johnson House has been out to the local park to do some photography. Meanwhile, back at the service, another of our residents enjoyed getting stuck in, helping the team to spray paint some furniture!

One of our residents from Amy Johnson House enjoyed a trip to Bridlington in the sunshine. This was our residents first time at the beach since 2016 and first time on a ride since 2009! 🏖️🎢

Our residents enjoyed an afternoon swimming at the local pool, followed by stopping by the park to feed the geese!

Our incredibly talented residents at Amy Johnson House have drawn these brilliant pictures for our Art themed Instagram competition this month! The detail and colour on these drawings is amazing 🎨

Mental Health Awareness Week 2022

Amy Johnson House marked Mental Health Awareness Week with a coffee morning – residents baked cornflake crispy cakes especially for the event!

Residents also created a positivity wall with words of encouragement for each other.

Royal Armouries Visit

One of our residents at Amy Johnson House was supported on a visit to the Royal Armouries in Leeds – he had been excited to visit for a while and the experience did not disappoint!

Ice Hockey

One of our support staff at Amy Johnson House plays for the Kingston Diamonds ice hockey team, and some of our residents went along to the latest game to cheer her on! Our residents had a great time, and the Kingston Diamonds had an incredible 9-0 win against Slough Sirens!

Thai Feast New Year 2021

Happy New Year! 🌟 Residents at Amy Johnson House became top sous chefs on New Year’s Eve and enjoyed cooking up this delicious Thai feast!

Sharing the Christmas Spirit 2021

Staff from Amy Johnson House collected items to donate to Emmaus charity instead of sending Christmas cards to each other. They collected toiletries, gloves, hats and scarves.

Emmaus supports people to work their way out of homelessness, providing meaningful work, training, support and a stable home for as long as someone needs it.

Christmas Light Switch On

Staff and residents at Amy Johnson House took a trip to see the Hull Christmas Light Switch On. The residents had a fun time dancing and singing along to the music, getting ready for Christmas! Everyone then went back to Amy Johnson house and made hot chocolates with whipped cream and marshmallows to warm up.

Transforming the Service

Residents and team members at Amy Johnson House have been busy creating wall art to brighten up their service and keep track of their Olympic Games. They also added to their arts and crafts corner, created a Nerf Gun target practice wall and updated their activity board ahead of Red Nose Day!
