#CelebratingSocialCare with Skills for Care

Today we join Skills for Care as part of their #CelebratingSocialCare campaign! This April they are putting the spotlight onto all of the incredible people who work in adult health and social care. For the rest of the month, we’re going to be shouting a little bit louder for the amazing health and social care industry and recognising the vital work that individuals in the sector do every single day.

If you’re currently working in health and social care, we want to say a massive thank you! Due to your impact and care, more and more people are supported in their recovery journey and able to live more independently.

You can get involved in the campaign too by recognising your fellow colleagues, teams or manager for their great work or achievements. Share success stories, exciting activities you’ve gotten up to or any initiatives that your organisation has been working on. This month is all about you, so be sure to pat yourself on the back too. Don’t forget to shout out yourself for all your hard work! Share what you love the most about working in social care and be sure to answer any questions that people may have about your role and the work you do. Be PROUD of yourselves!

Not sure how to support the campaign? For those not part of the sector, you can support by saying thank you to anyone you know working in adult social care. Additionally, take a scroll through the #CelebratingSocialCare hashtag to gain a further understanding of the industry and the amount of hard work and passion that is required.

Who are Skills for Care?

Skills for Care is the development and planning body for Adult Social Care in England as established in 2001. They work with a variety of people, from the Government, partners, and employees, to ensure that the social care sector is sufficiently supported and developed. They are in charge of providing guidance on best practice, relevant tools and resources to managers and those in charge of the delivery of social care.

What is Adult Social Care?

Adult Social Care involves supporting individuals with their non-clinical needs. This crucial service is provided to young people, adults, and older people. This could mean helping a person in their own home, supported housing, residential homes, or day centres. Someone working in social care may provide physical, emotional, and social support for an individual. It is part of their job to help others live their life and maintain independence and control.

An ever growing sector, the need for social care workers increases each year. “The social care sector employs 1.48 million people and will have half a million extra jobs available by 2030.” As the industry expands, many jobs have begun to cover both the health and social care roles. Consequently, coming together to promote both health and wellbeing as a part of the overall care that should be provided.

What an incredibly varied role! There is never a dull day in the industry, with a range of jobs available that allow people to use a wide number of skills. Whether you are a care worker or social worker. Team leader, supervisor or manager. Outreach worker, occupational therapist or administrator. Service manager, support worker or clinical occupational therapist. Or any of the hundreds of other roles that there are, it is time to celebrate you. You are part of such a crucial and rewarding industry where your work is valued and appreciated not just this month, but every month!

#CelebratingSocialCare with the Northern Healthcare team

At Northern Healthcare we celebrate our team members in a number of different ways! To ensure that all of our voices are heard we have weekly internal shout outs from our Chief Executive Officer. We are encouraged to connect, share and shape the future of Northern Healthcare by creating an open line of communication and a chance to ask questions as we grow as a company.

Our culture is built around our five core company values which come together to create the word ‘PROUD’. These values are at the heart of everything we do.

PROUD stands for:
  • Positive
  • Respectful
  • Open and Honest.
  • Understanding
  • Dedicated

When launching our new company values, we provided each service and our head office with their very own ‘PROUD Mailbox’. We loved seeing staff and residents personalise them to make it their own! We even have our own postcards printed with our PROUD values. Everyone is encouraged to fill one out and post it when they see our values being demonstrated. At the end of the month, we recognise a ‘Values Champion’! This person is greatly rewarded for all of their hard work and dedication. We love this specific aspect of our culture. It allows us to be continuously striving towards our company goal of putting people first and changing lives.

Our values align themselves perfectly with the 6 C’s of Health and Social Care. You can read more about them here.
