Supported living provides refuge for those unable to cope at home, and is often a safe haven for individuals with a mental health diagnosis, learning disability or autism.
According to the Supported Housing Alliance, “Over 600,000 people rely on supported housing to provide a secure place to live and to offer appropriate care and support.”
There are many reasons why a person would choose this option and in this article, we’re going to explain what supported living is, the positives of choosing it, our offering, success stories and how to get in touch with our dedicated team.
Supported living is housing designed to help people live as independently as possible.
Each person will have an individual tenancy which means they have their own home and can benefit from the independence that comes with that.
But, who can benefit from supported living? It’s often for individuals with a learning or physical disability, people recovering from brain injury, and those with mental health issues and autism.
The aim of supported living is always to help the people supported lead happy and fulfilling lives, while their care needs are met and upheld.
There are a number of benefits, including the following:
We are an independent provider of supported living services for people who need support due to a mental health diagnosis, learning disability or autism.
At Northern Healthcare, we help over two hundred adults across the UK in all aspects of their daily lives and mental health recovery. At the moment, our services are based across the North West, Cumbria, Yorkshire and the Midlands but we’re growing rapidly to enable us to support more and more people every year.
At Northern Healthcare, the success of the people we support is of the utmost importance – seeing them thrive is our goal.

Luke, a person we supported from Grainger House (our supported living service in Cradley Heath) “feels like his life has purpose” after completing his supported living journey at Northern Healthcare. Read more about Luke’s story here.

If you feel that a supported living service is the right next step for you, it is important to find a service that can meet and support your needs.
Your social worker or care coordinator can support you with this – they will arrange for you to have a needs assessment to identify the areas where you may need some additional support, and then they will help you choose a service that will provide the best support possible for your needs.
At Northern Healthcare, we provide bespoke 24/7 mental health support – If you are interested in our services and would like to know more, you can contact us here.
If you would like to get in touch about one of our services, we require a clinical referral from a healthcare professional. Please speak with your social worker or care coordinator to discuss making a referral.
You can find further information for referrers here.
